The Last Vacation

May 6th, 2008 by candice3 in Uncategorized · No Comments

In June of 2006 my mom, and dad, and I went to California for a last vacation together. I call it “The Last Vacation” because this was a very emotional time for me… this was when my parents split up.

We awoke early that morning to pack the motorcycles with tints, blankets, clothes, and other things we needed. From what I just said, you can tell that we did not stay in hotels… we camped the whole way there!

Our goal was to go to The Redwood Forest. The last time I had been to the Redwoods was when I was 2 or 3 and I don’t remember it, so that’s why they toke me there again.

On the way we stopped to other places, like the Zoo, and the Oregon Caves, they were amazing! While at the zoo I got to play with a baby lion and pet a baby bear.

Paul Bunion Park was were we went it was awesome and the trees were amazing. On of the trees was 2 to 3,000 feet tall and 30 to 40 feet around! My favorite tree was the one that got struck by lightning and only the middle burned away. there also was a sky lift that toke you all the way too the top of the mountain… It was TERRIFYING-!!

One sad thing about the trip, was when we stopped at the Siskyou river and went swimming. We had drove all the way to the Oregon Caves and realized we left our camera there! My dad woke up very early in the morning and drove all the way back to find it was not there.

The camera had all the pictures of me playing with the lion and pic’s of tigers and other wild creatures from the zoo. It was really sad but we bought disposable cameras and toke pic’s of the Caves. To replace the other pic’s some how, my mom and dad toke me to a different zoo and we got really cool pic’s of that!

The last vacation was very fun and I wish it was not the last.

Blog Post#4- text messaging…does it help or hinder student writing?

April 25th, 2008 by candice3 in Uncategorized · No Comments

I think texting helps in some ways and hinders in some ways. It helps with the speed and understanding of what your writing but it hinders grammar and spelling. When students text they don’t write in full sentence and they often spell words how they think is shorter. For example when they spell, cool they write “kool”, and what as, “wat”, also was as “waz”. Students also abbreviate there feelings with smilies =] :) :( =[ :o :-] ^_^ :| and etc…
The most popular is “lol” which is the abbreviated form of “laugh out loud”. They spend time on misspelled words rather than spelling them correctly. That is why texting is somewhat bad.

Independent Reading- New Understandings

In the book A Night Without Armor, poems By: Jewel, the poem, The Bony Ribs of Adam reaches out to me a lot. My favorite line is, “But now how my belly hollows and aches craving seed craving kisses but outside the road hisses, and I find myself packing girlishness in an old leather bag.”(pg.2) I like this line because it reminds me of when I was a little girl and how I tried to run away because I was grounded. What I did was I toke a stick and tied a bandanna around it, stuffed it with pictures and a few clothes, and food, then I tried to go out my window when my mom came around the corner and caught me.
